Art Camp for Adults

Y’all! Yes, I said Y’all. I’m from the south, you know!

Anyway, I am so excited to tell you about this idea that has been simmering—growing—fermenting, if you will.

For the longest time, I taught summer art camps for kids and it was a blast! The kids and I had so much fun that parents always asked me if they could join too. One summer we did fashion design camp with figure drawing and painted patterns. Another time we made kid paintings that could rival the adults. These days I teach workshops, but they fill up within 30 minutes and folks can’t always make them work with their schedules. It’s hard to travel and harder to take time out of our busy days and weekends. As an adult juggling so many things, it can be tough! I get it!

My favorite part of art camp was always coming up with fantastic fun lessons and then teaching. I love teaching. It’s in my soul. I recently learned that even my great grandmother was a teacher. That makes me a 4th generation teacher if you count the fact that my Grandma Nina taught piano lessons for a bit. But here’s the other thing. I am also like my daughter in that I like to “do it myself.” Yep! You got that right. That means that the public schools burned me out pretty quickly. I want to lead! I don’t want to be told how to do it. I digress… but it brings me back to the point.

I am offering a free, fun, commitment free, flexible, do it yourself, Art Camp for Adults 2023! Each week for 7 weeks this summer I’ll send you one of my favorite drink recipes along with art inspiration and an art prompt that you can try if you like.

What’s the catch? There isn’t one. I get to plan fun mini-lessons and inspire you, and you get to be inspired! If you’re not already on it and you want in, hop on my Studio Insiders email list and all the fun stuff will land in your inbox starting in June. If you already get emails from me, you’re good to go!

Have you ever wondered what cocktail pairs perfectly with an impressionist color palette or a Mary Oliver poem? Let’s have some fun, shall we?

My hope is that we can all learn some new summer cocktail (or mocktail) recipes and make a handful of mini art projects while feeling inspired and creative. For the art prompts, you can use any kind of art materials you want and take them in any direction you choose. Let’s let curiosity guide us and let go of our fears for a few weeks. Give yourself permission to take a leap and try something new. Follow along with watercolor, gouache, drawing, doodling, Sharpie scribbles, collage, scrapbooking, pipe cleaner sculpting, photography, mud or just with your mind. If you make the art— cool. If not— cool— send me your drink art instead!

Either way, I would love to see your work. If you are inspired, share your art with me by tagging it on Instagram with #adultartcamp and @katie_podracky so I can find it! Not on Instagram? No problemo- just send it to me via email so I can celebrate your wins with you!

Should we make t-shirts? I think we need t-shirts! Bottoms up y’all! I am so excited to see you there!

xoxo,

Katie aka “your favorite camp counselor”
